Sebastopol Community Band
Musical Performance by the Sebastopol Community Band

The Sebastopol Community Band got its start in the late 1980's on the front porch of Greg Jilka's house on Pleasant Hill Road. At that time it was an informal gathering of local musicians who wanted to get together and play concert band music--eg Souza marches. It was directed by former music teacher, Frank Jilka, (yes Greg's dad) who proudly counted himself a graduate of the famous University of Michigan marching band. About the same time, a brass choir, made of trumpets, tuba, and a baritone, was also playing for the Sebastopol Community Church.  Players from those earlier groups now comprise the Sebastopol Community Band, formed in 2020. This band is now led by Nick Xenelis and rehearses at the Community Church. We have played in Ives Park for the 4th of July, at Sebastopol Rotary meetings for Veteran's Day, and on Memorial Day at the Pleasant HIll Memorial Park also for Veteran's day. Xenelis, who directs the band, taught music in Santa Rosa schools for many years, and regularly performs with many local groups, including the Santa Rosa Symphony.
